The Strategic Communication Leadership Development Program (formerly known as the University Relations Leadership Development Program) is designed to build the next generation of communications, marketing, and outreach leaders at UW–Madison. Launched in 2017, the goals of the initiative are to strengthen cross-campus collaboration and connections while expanding institutional and professional knowledge for participants. The program is open to all marketing and communications staff on campus.
Applications for the 2024–25 cohort are now closed. The deadline for consideration was July 19, 2024.
About the program
- Ten to 15 individuals will be selected to receive enhanced professional development and training opportunities from September through June.
- The program features roughly two monthly meetings, each lasting 1.5–2.5 hours, including sessions with Office of Strategic Communication teams and visits with campus partners to learn about their communications and marketing operations.
- Participation includes a fully paid trip to the Big Ten Plus News and Marketing conference or another higher education marketing and communications conference.
- Participants will assist the Office of Strategic Communication to identify solutions for various marketing and communications initiatives.

- Expand cross-campus knowledge and connections.
- Learn and apply new ideas and skills.

- A brief explanation of why you are interested in the program, and how your school, college, or unit will benefit from participation.
Responses should be kept to 250 words or less. All expressions of interest should be approved by your dean, director, or supervisor. Please contact Rodee Schneider with any questions.
Please note: Due to the small size of the program, an important requirement is that members make every effort to attend the majority of sessions in-person. The program coordinator will work closely with cohort members to identify and schedule a variety of meeting times.
